We did it!

Within a year of launching, The Honest Actors’ Blog has won the ‘Arts & Culture’ award at the UK Blog Awards 2016!

Attending in my absence, fellow Irish actor Jason Broderick – the man who helped me relaunch the site back in September –  put on a brand new suit, made his way to the Park Plaza and took over the Twitter account for the night. I don’t think either of us expected anything beyond a few free drinks and a goodie bag full of vouchers for things we couldn’t afford even with a discount. We were, after all, up against The Royal Mint, Ticketmaster and some very big and well-established brands, in a category sponsored by Odeon Cinemas. And we were the guys who couldn’t stretch to an extra ticket.

Then, just after nine o’clock, I got a text that I was somehow able to read even without my glasses…

UKBA16 WINNERS
We’d won. We were officially the best ‘Arts & Culture’ blog in the UK. And I, for reasons that still aren’t clear to me, was pulling faces.

pulling faces

Jason accepted the award on behalf of the Honest Actors’ team, and minutes later we given a special judge’s commendation in the ‘Vlogger & Podcast’ category. Not bad, Honest Actors’. Not bad.

So thanks again to everyone who took the time to vote, in many cases on multiples occasions, via the UK Blog Awards site. It was a public vote, so we genuinely couldn’t have done it without your help. And thanks to all those who have submitted articles, in particular Katie Elin-Salt, Katie Redford and Chris Tester – the triumvirate who will hopefully become the editorial team moving forward. We did it!

And so to the question of the future: what’s next? Well, as some of you may have noticed, I have just started posting articles again, and will continue to do so for the next few weeks while I try to attract the right sponsor for the blog. The award will hopefully make that easier, and I was hopeful even before last night’s win. As for the podcast. things are much further on and I hope to make a big announcement on that front very, very soon. In the meantime, The Honest Actors’ Shop went live last week. If you want to support the project, and get yourself some opening night cards, pin badges, or a sticker for your laptop as part of the deal, check it out. There’s 20% off everything until next Friday.

Until next time, thanks again,

J x
