  • Cumberbatch actor

Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor. Am I?

Olivia Colman is an actor. Idris Elba is an actor. Benedict Cumberbatch is most definitely an actor, if not the most actor of all the actors. These people all undoubtedly return home at Christmas and say ‘Actor’ when asked what they do by long-unseen neighbours at their parents’ Christmas party.

Not I. When asked what I do, I say ‘Well I’m a freelance writer and, I guess, sometimes I do a bit of acting. I act sometimes. I might be an actor. I’m not sure’.

The Actor’s Guide To Surviving the Really F*cking Quiet Bit

Oh! Hello horrifically, deadly silent acting patch! What are you doing back here so soon? Honestly, there was absolutely no rush. I was doing fine. But, well, here you are…all quiet, unwelcome and absolutely pissing USELESS. There’s only so much sitting in coffee shops, hiding behind a laptop and drinking coffee’s that I can’t afford, an out of work Actress like myself, can do. And in all honesty, between me and you, it’s driving me absolutely insane.

A friendly guide to auditions

Here is a brief list of important things I have learnt about auditioning. I should point out to avoid wasting all of your time that absolutely none of these tips involve help in actually getting the job once you’re in the room. Still trying to figure that one out for myself. I’ll let you know.

Katie Elin-Salt
Katie is an actor, singer and musician from Bridgend in South Wales now living in London. She has done some nice bits of work in all these things over the last few years that she’s chuffed with.

Aside from this – most commonly known Princess Elsa on weekends, she has also starred as Peppa Pig and Supergirl in various children’s parties across the UK. You may also recognise Katie from working in the returns section of Ann Summers Cardiff at Christmas 2010. Series Regular of Judge Judy (Playing person watching it on the sofa whilst once again not in the gym)

20 Things Actors Wish They’d Known Sooner (PART 2)

Here it, is part two. If you missed the first instalment, and you’re the sort that likes to do things by the book, you can read it here. I wouldn’t bother; part two is where it’s at…

  • Actor definition

Does this mean I’m an Actor now?

Cutting a long, tedious, life story short, I spent four years studying a Masters at a red brick university only to discover, on its completion, that at the age of twenty-two, I still wanted to be an actor.

I avoided drama school at eighteen to pursue the route of a middle of the road arts degree that I would eventually convert to law; make the parents proud and maybe make a ton of money; you know, the usual fools errand of a reasonably smart individual who has no idea what to do with his life…

The Career Advice Actors Wish They’d Been Given Sooner (PART 1)

In preparation for today’s seminar at Surviving Actors, I trawled through over 700 responses to the Honest Actors’ survey to find the things actors most commonly say when asked, ‘If you could go back to the start of your career and offer yourself advice, what would it be?’ . For those of you who couldn’t make it along, I’m going to share the top twenty responses…

Help Shape Our Surviving Actors Seminar

Not every rejection can turn into an Adele Song.

Eleanor Matsuura said that. And it’s true. Obviously. Unless you’re Adele.

Sadly, our conversation for episode 11 of the podcast was cut short, as those who have already listened will have heard. The good news? The conversation continues, this coming Saturday at Surviving Actors. And we need your input…

  • Actress Eleanor 'Ellie' Matsuura

Episode 11: Eleanor Matsuura

Episode 11’s hero/ heroine is actor/ actress (blame Denise Gough for confusing me on this again) Eleanor Matsuura.

I probably had too much fun doing this one and I hope it doesn’t show in an annoying way. I also talked more than I ever have in one of these interviews. Not much of that made it through the edit, you’ll be delighted to hear, but it’s worth noting as I think it explains the character of what remains. Spending over an hour in the company of Eleanor, having never met before, felt like spending five minutes with someone I’ve known all my life.
